What Is Sin (Part-1): Biblical Definition and Today's Application?
CD Users,
This question came about for the need for truth to combat society's embracement of relativity. Also, I am reminded of a book, "Whatever Became of Sin?" by Karl Menninger (1973). It was written in the early 70's, one would think it was written last year. Society no longer recognizes sin as sin. The book helps one to understand why we're in the state we're in. "The distinguished psychiatrist examines human morality and the existence and consequences of sin today."
I am well aware that opinions and thoughts are "a dime a dozen", but what is a sin? How does the Bible define it in the OT (Hebrew) and NT (Greek)? Let the Source of Sources (Bible) have it say before the enthronement of conjectures, debating skills and nullification of reality. Given that all humanity, this side of the fall of Adam, has been defined as a sinner, shouldn't we know for certain, what the word means from God's perspective? What other words or variations are there of this word? How is its meaning applied today? Is sin relevant in today's society? How does one define the sin from the sinner? Let the Bible have its rightful place. Now, what says ye? CM

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:37–40)
If this defines righteousness, then sin is hatred in any degree.
