Do you believe Satan's lie about the old testament was done away, we should only study the new?

How then can we understand anything in the new testament that has its roots based in old testament?

For example, many Churches claiming loyalty to Christ, claim that Adam is the first sinner, by which we 'inherit' Original sin.

The Old Testament (In the book of Genesis) is where we learn that Adam was not the first sinner, and therefore we cannot inherit "Original sin" nor a "Sin Nature" from Father Adam.

This was a man-made doctrine used to capture the minds of mankind, and make them subject to the teachers who were the only ones who could understand the scriptures, (THAT was the claim made by the priesthood at a very early time in the development of the church.)

A doctrine was developed about Mary being without original sin, because original sin came down through the male, after Adam's transgression. Mary was then a participant in bringing sinless Jesus into the world. Thus was begun the doctrine of "Immaculate Conception" referencing the begetal and birth of Messiah.

Anyone familiar with this concept?

    Lamech,

Thanks for your inquiry. The relationship between original sin and the origin of death is explored in context of the Fall of Lucifer and of mankind.

The sin of Satan constitutes original sin in God’s universe and among the angelic order of beings (1 John 3:18).

    • This sin preceded the one of enticing humanity to sin in the garden of Eden (Gen 3:1–5).
    • This sin took place in heaven (Isa 14:12–15; Ezek 28:13, 14, 17; Rev 12:7–9), the latter on earth in Eden (Gen. 3:1–5; Isa 14:12; Rev 12:9).

Adam’s sin is the original sin in the human family, which engendered the universal sinfulness and mortality of all humanity (Rom 5:12).

    • This sin took place on earth, in Eden (Gen 3:1–5; Isa 14:12; Rev 12:9).
    • It is the sin of generic man that affected human nature, environment, and the lower creatures because humanity was given “dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth” (Gen. 1:26). Human dominion shared in his fate (Gen. 3:17–19; Rom 8:19–23).

Both sins centered in self-deification (Isa 14:12–14; Gen. 3:1–6, 22) and led to mortality.

    • Both Satan’s and Adam’s sin brought mortality and death.
    • The righteous death of the seed of the woman, the second Adam, Jesus Christ, provided a means of escape from death for the first Adam (Gen 3:15) and the rest of humanity.

Christ “abolish death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” ( 2 Tim 1:10).

Original sin brought death to mankind as it had brought death to Satan. While Satan’s original sin in heaven did not pass death to mankind or the angels (fallen or unfallen), Adam’s original sin passed death to all mankind (Rom 5:12).

For now, accept this contribution. I hope this helps. CM

Original sin, as a doctrine, is not found in scripture. It is man made, and false.

Scripture teaches over and over again, that a man perishes for his own evil deeds, not for the deeds of his father. To suppose that all men bear Adam's sin, is to suppose Adam could have saved all men by living a righteous life. And THAT is simply not true either.

Eze 14:14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.

Eze 14:20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

    So let's begin at the beginning and see what scripture tells us;

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Look now at Gen 5:1-2 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; 2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam , in the day when they were created.

So God considered a Man to be completed by obtaining a mate. This is the origin of the wife taking the Husband's name at marriage.

When scripture later says "Sin entered by one man," It is referencing the one man, Adam and Eve of Gen 5:1-2.

Then there is the statement of Romans 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

This Doctrine developed by MEN in order to control their conscience Was overlooked by scholars from the very beginning.

Eve was responsible for the "original sin" - but scripture tells us plainly she was Mrs. Adam, so by one man Adam's wife, Eve (Mrs. Adam) sin entered, so also by one man Jesus, sin was conquered.

If, the term Old Testament refers to the Tanakh/Hebrew Bible then absolutely not! Even if one was deluded into only studying the NT as soon as they discovered 2 Timothy 3:15 ~ 17 (which by the way in historical context refers to the OT) they would learn that the OT/Tanakh has not be done away, nor nailed to the cross but rather remains inspired by God and useful.

  • Hi Lamech:

Long time ago (very long time ago), I read / heard a different view on original sin:

If you look at the punishment that the participants of the fall event in Genesis, it could make sense.

It kind of went like the following: (if my memory serves me)

Before the fall, Adam and Eve had the Holy Spirit indwelling them, almost like a cloud of glory and that is why they were naked and did not notice.

Supposedly since the presence of God was with them, they had the ability to make things happen through the use of the spoken word.

It seems that what happened at the fall was something related to sex.. (Eve punishment is about labor, etc., and Adam about toiling since the Holy Spirit left and then had to do things manually so to speak).

According to this particular theological construct, the original plan was not to reproduce sexually, like animals did, but it would have to do something with the spoken word.

Since Adam and Eve, decided to eat fruit (LEB Pro 30:20  This is the way of a woman committing adultery: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says "I have not done wrong."), we all are product of sexual reproduction and thus of original sin.

I do not recall the name of this particular construct, and has many detractors... why would we have sexual organs if we were not going to use them, etc.

But is interesting to explore, because in certain form, many of the pieces are put together in a manner that makes better sense.

Closely related is the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, when Jesus explained it, it was not a metaphor, but Him saying what really went on: Mat 13:24-30, explained in Mat 13:36-43.

Notice that the way Jesus explained, it means that was no metaphor, but the deal really happened.

Different angle for further research, reflection and constructive comment.

The Old Testament relies heavily on the New to understand it. An example is the blind Pharisees who go by the letter when reading about the kingdom instead of having a spiritual understanding of it. The Kingdom was to come in the time of the ancient Roman Empire. But it was spiritual as Jesus revealed its presence. So they and most today fail to see it and still wait for the physical millennial kingdom the Pharisees invented through their literalism.
